The 2008 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 map is now live and the off-road community is ramping up for pre-running to begin on November 1st. For many, pre-running is the real highlight. Basically, it's everyone's chance to have fun in the dirt, enjoy the Baja terrain and a few Tecates with race buddies and rivals. But it is also work, marking the GPS, making notes and plotting race strategy.
This year's race is a mere 634 miles - starting and finishing in Ensenada. Once the green flag drops, the race heads Northeast toward Mexicali and the Mexico-Cali border. At RM 140, the course turns south at the top of Laguna Salada and heads toward San Felipe, approaching town and Checkpoint 3 heading from the south in a counterclockwise loop. San Felipe is approximately 350 miles into the race. With less than 300 miles to the finish, the course heads north about 50 miles then turns west heading through Mike's Sky Ranch. From this point, the course is similar to the 2008 Baja 500, dropping in to Santo Thomas and then on to Ojos Negros and the finish line.
Everyone at Rod Hall Racing sends out a huge thank you to Sal Fish, Sue Johnson, Oscar Ramos and the entire SCORE International team for producing this though, legendary race.
